Nothing like a 20 lb laker to in the final moments of the trip!

A couple of buddies ( Ron and Mike ) and I arrived at Crescent Lake around ten Friday morning. On the way up there we were all excited and pumped up, thinking we were going to be able to get out there and hit it hard. Until we got there only to find out that a storm was coming through. The waves where huge and we had a hell of a time unloading the boat. It got hung up on the trailer and the water was not to forgiving. We finally accomplished our task and docked the boat. We waited out the storm for most of the day. We had a one hour window before dark that the wind died down. We took advantage of it quick. Ron and I made one pass on simax and he hooked into a nice 2.5 lb brown. That was a good sign ( I thought ). We released the fish and let out one more time. Then the wind picked up quick so we headed for shore.

The next morning we were up bright and early eager to get out there. The conditions were perfect except the water was a little cold ( 36 degrees ). We where cruzeing out through the bay and seen that the storm, from the night before sank one of the rental boats. The nose was still up out of the water only because of the shallows. Other wise the lake would of had that little guy for dinner. We started trolling as soon as we could heading towards simax. Half way through the run Mike hooked into a dink. We released it to be caught another day, and hopefully a lot bigger. We kept at it with high spirits, but no luck. So we thought we'd give the Macs a try. We went straight to the summer homes, dropped the ball down, and started are mission. Not to long after ,my pole started to dance. I popped the line off and realed in a nice 11 lb laker. We kept at it for a few hours making the same run and managed to pull up another 6 pounder. The whole time thinking about prime time in the shallows for those elusive Browns. Which did not pan out for us, because we only caught one little dink. We should have stayed in front of the summer homes. But you don't know until you try.

Sunday morning came quick. With a pot of coffee down we where more than ready to try our luck one more time for a trophy Brown. We started at simax and seen we had another boat out there joining us so we kept trolling and let him have it to themselves we hadn't tried any of the other spots yet anyhow. We ended up in front of the summer homes one more time so we thought what the hell it's are last hour out on the water the browns weren't biteing ,might as well give it a shot. We dropped our lines down to a hundred feet and kicked back. Some time passed and I was zoned out on the fish finder then Ron yelled at me to grab my pole. I jumped up, set the hook and she started to peel line. I was in for the fight of my life. It took me 25 minutes to get her into the net. I would take in 10 feet of line and she would take 15 out. But she finally tired out and we were able to get her in the boat. She weighed in at 20 lbs. I was amazed. This was the first trip I had ever caught anything on the downrigger and we realled in three. One of them being the biggest fish that I have ever caught. I owe it all to my brother Andy for introducing me to trophy trout fishing. Thanks bro.
