Wickiup Reservoir, OR - May 6th thru 8th - contributions by Brian Wildish (aka BWild), Ryan Daniels (aka Coyote), Rick Palo and Jake Bunio.

Hey Everyone:

We had quite the reunion of TTH’ers this past weekend at Wickiup Reservoir.  The list included Ryan Daniels, Dan McAllister, Jimmy Lewis, Brian Sanchez, Mike Beer, Jordan Whitton, Rick Palo, Andy and Allen Dahlberg, and then Jake Bunio of Trophysticks with his whole gang.

I’m just going to give a Cliff Notes Version of everyone’s trip.  Jake Bunio and his gang actually had already been up there for a while and were pulling out on Friday morning.  Jake had caught an 8.5 lber as his first fish of his trip (caught on a 6.5 inch Silver Platter Trophy Stick with Pro-Cure’s Minnow Gel).

An awesome 8.5 lb Hookjaw! Way to go, Jake!

The next day, he caught his 9TH BROWN OVER 10 lbs with an amazing hookjaw pushing 11 lbs.  This beast was caught on Jake’s NEW custom-painted 5.5 inch “Jerry Steel” Trophystick.  The scent used on this was Pro-Cure’s Trophy Trout Gel.  WAY TO GO JAKE!

A gorgeous hookjaw pushing 11 lbs! Released right after the photo! AWESOME!

We also heard that Brown Trout legend, Chuck Jones, was up there and caught a 10.5 lb hookjaw himself when Jake and his crew first arrived.  Needless to say, our hopes were pretty high when we showed up, but also nervous that we may have missed the big boys when they were on “the chomp”.

Brian Wildish (aka BWild) “Cliff Notes” report:

Well, I usually wait until the end of my report to send out my “THANK YOU’s” to different people, but I’m going to start with them.  THANK YOU to Jake Bunio and his buddy, Mikey, for saving me.  When I launched my boat on Friday AM, I a broken/corroded terminal wire and a bad cell on my battery.  Mikey ended up having a wiring kit and hooked me up in about 2 minutes, and Jake just sold me one of his batteries so I didn’t have to waste my time to go back to La Pine or Bend.  They saved me a half a day’s worth of fishing.  THANK YOU SO MUCH GUYS!!!

For Late Friday AM/Early PM, I fished with Dan McAllister and Brian Sanchez.  Dan had a nice takedown and Sanchez had one pull it out of the holder, but neither of the fish stuck.  I ended up getting bit and reeled in a 14 inch kokanee?!?!  On a brown lure?  Well, it has happened before.

For the Evening Bite, I fished with Jimmy Lewis in my boat.  We both got a couple of short-strikes, but I ended up catching an 18 inch dink and a 22-23 inch snake.  We didn’t weight it but I’m guessing it was in the 3 to 3.5 lb range.

Not too many fish, but a brown's a brown

The next morning, Jimmy caught a 14 inch kokanee.   We flat-lined and trolled the shallows a bit and got a bunch of little short strikes but nothing stuck.  We figured they were all dinks (probably 10 to 14 inchers just swatting at our lures).  I ended up catching a 20 inch 3 lber about an hour later (no pic) and then had a terrific takedown but after a brief hook-up and headshake, he was gone.  DANGIT!!!  I was only able to fish for a day (as Mother’s Day was the next day) so that was it for me.

My best lures (in no particular order) were 4” Lyman (Green/Silver Pattern), 5.5 inch Baby Bow TrophyStick, and then a Custom-Painted Rainbow Bomber 15 Long A.

RD send me a quick blurb.  He didn’t have much to report except that his boat did not do well this trip.   Jimmy Lewis’s killer chunky, 3 lb rainbow was the best fish to my boat for the weekend.  He did stick a couple small 20", 3 pounder sized brownies between himself and Mike Beer, but other than that, not much.

Rick Palo “Cliff Notes” report:

On Saturday, the boy stuck this nice 5 lber!!

Rick Palo's son, Mason, with a great 5 lb Hookjaw!

Mason had the hot rod for the weekend, He was whooping up on his ol' man!

On Sunday (although we didn’t get out until the afternoon) me and the boy got into a killer brown trout feeding frenzy!!    Um well  Mason did, LOL!  He had that hot lure on all day. And let me just say we/he landed 9 fish for 14 bites  and that little Brown trout slayer put on a clinic for me landing 8 of them and the majority of the ones that didn’t stick. My highlight for the day was the first bite of the day when my lure got the tail and hook bit off!

Would like to see the fish that did this!! WOW!!!

Now that's what I call getting "Chewed Off"!

Sure would have liked to see that fish. Most of all the fish were 3lb but did get 2 fish at 4lbs.

Palo's boat was definitely the hot one out of the TTH Gang! Way to go Palo!

It was great times hanging out around the fire and sharing story’s and music!   Good to meet Mike Beer and Brian Sanchez also. Good times!!!!!
