Hello
Brian,
I
wanted to let you know about my weekend at Crescent Lake. My plan was to arrive on Friday, but with the awesome weather we
had last week I took another day off and showed up at the resort around noon on Thursday. After a quick lunch at the resort,
I was on the water fishing by 1:00. Around 3:45 I had my first good strike of the trip. After couple of head shakes the rod
went limp and when I reeled up to check my lure, it was gone. This was my only strike of the afternoon.
Friday morning I got out in the water about 5:30 only to find that lake was iced over.
I trolled through the ice trying to find open water, but couldn't, so I returned back to the dock until light. About 6:45
I was able to find open water in front of the summer homes. About 9, I hooked up with a lake trout flat lining down in Tandy
Bay. I lost the lake trout with net in hand just beside the boat. At 2:15 I caught my first fish of the year, a 22" 2-3 lb
Brown Trout out in front of they boy scout camp. Around 5:30 I caught my last fish of the day, another 20" Brown.
On
Saturday morning before sunrise I caught my largest fish of the trip, a 4lb Brown out in front of Simax Beach. About a hour
later I caught my last fish of the trip, which was another 20" Brown. Later that afternoon, after trolling with no success
I decided to starting casting. With the high winds, I decided to start drifting along the shore using a drift sock which helped
a lot. On my second drift along the boy scout camp, I lost my fish of the weekend just a few feet from the boat. I was using
a max rap lure from Rapala. I would highly recommend this lure for casting long distance. This was the last action I had on
the trip. I fished Sunday until 1:30, but had to leave because of high winds. I have plans to be back out on Crescent Lake
at the end of next month.
