Crescent Lake and Wickiup Reservoir - July and August, 2012 - by Ryan Daniels (aka Coyote)

Just wanted to send in a quick summary of a couple recent trips I have been on in Central Oregon with my family this past August.  I apologize in advance, as this report is not in my typical report fashion with suspenseful details and thrilling storylines.  This summer has been so busy with little time for writing.  I drew a coveted Oregon Pronghorn tag this year after 15 years of applying so that consumed much of my time as the season was right in the middle of August!  As it turned out, I got a beautiful trophy Antelope buck, however, so that too was very successful.  As for the fishing, here are my combined reports:

In early August, we spent our family vacation with our good friends, the Leibelt family, at Crescent Lake.  We arrived on a Wednesday and took my daughter, Madyson, and Dustin's oldest boy, Cole, out for an evening trolling session down Simax Beach.  As it turned out, this was one of our more productive evening bites.  I quickly landed two small browns to 18 inches or so.   After releasing both, we trolled on and as our lures neared North Simax Beach, Dustin's rip was greeted with a firm tug a war back!  I could tell this fish had some weight as the pole loaded up nicely, and he passed off the rod to Cole knowing it was hooked well.  After a strong battle, I netted a beautiful 24 inch, 6 pound hookjaw brown for Cole!  Woohoo!  This was Cole's biggest trout to date.

The smiles say it all! Great fish Cole and great guiding, Ryan!

Dustin and I were stoked as this was just our first evening of our 5 day stay.  We quickly got some great pics and released the big boy to grow some more.  As it turned out, this was the best fish landed for the trip.  Dustin caught a really pretty colored brown early Friday morning with me around Tandy Bay.  He was a dandy male that weighed in just over the 5 pound mark and was 24 inches long.

A dandy of a 5lber for Dustin!

Gorgeous Coloration on this Male! What a great fish!

This fish reminded me of an East Lake brown because of his rich colors.  Just a beautiful brown!  He too was released to fight another day.  We scratched out a couple more browns in the 3 and 4 pound range, and also a couple small lakers to 5 pounds.

Not a monster, but hey, gotta start somewhere, right?

Overall, it was not the incredible productive summer trip to Crescent as I have been fortunate enough to partake in over the last two summers, but a great trip nonetheless.  We spent the majority of our time soaking up the summer sun along Simax Beach, so how can I complain about that!  Great family fun and memories to last a lifetime......
