The Shenk's put on a CLINIC finishing 2nd and 5th in the Odell Lake Trout Tourney!

Odell Lake, OR - May 31st thru June 1st, 2014 - by Brian Wildish (aka Bwild)

The one thing that I love about trophy trout fishing is not the fish.  Well, alright…I LOVE the fish.  But the great thing that occurs as a by-product of this type of fishing is the people you meet that share your same passion.  Brian and Kasey Shenk are two of those people that I’ve been blessed to come to know over the years while pursuing these magnificent fish.

During my annual Dad’s weekend trip with my dad and Ryan and Kim Daniels to Crescent Lake, my phone kept “blowing up” with text messages.  They were from Brian Shenk.  He and Kasey were in “the neighborhood” at Odell Lake doing some pre-fishing for a lake trout tournament that was to occur the next weekend.  Brian, Kasey, and his parents Charlie and Ginny, were having some great success on the lakers.  I think that little bit of pre-fishing did them some good.  They caught 14 for the day. Ginny scored (2) large lakers of 17 and 22 lbs, respectively.

A nice pre-fish 17 lb lake trout for Ginny Shenk!

This was the 14th and final fish of the day! Now that's how you pre-fish a tourney!!

“Fast-Forward” a week, Brian and Kasey had their game-faces on and were on the prowl to harvest some monster mackinaw from the depths of Odell Lake.  Now, I was not there, but over the course of 2 days, Brian and Kasey caught 28 lake trout totaling 797 inches, making an average length of over 28” per trout (alright….char, but still impressive).

Uh....pretty impressive stats for 2 days!!!

Kasey Shenk took 2nd place in the tournament with her largest fish measuring at 38 inches long and 19 lbs, 9 oz.   Her prize was $800 cash!

This fish was 19lbs 9 oz and 38.5" long! Odell Lake has some quality Lakers in it!

Brian Shenk took 5th place in the tournament with his largest fish measuring at 33-1/2 inches long and 17 lbs, 3 oz.  His prize was $200 cash and $100 gift certificate to the Odell Lake Resort!

17lbs 3oz and 33.5" long. I'd say the Shenks had quite the weekend!

The Shenks took home $1000 in cash and prizes!  I don’t know about you, but spending a weekend with your wife fishing on a lake, catching some real quality mackinaw, and then getting paid for it sounds A-OK with me!!

I’ll be honest, the next few photos may not be chronologically correct in the time or day of when they caught, but the last (2) photos are what sums it up!  Congratulations to you Brian and Kasey!  You guys ROCK!!!
