A Eulogy and Tribute to Honoring Jim Reeves - by Brian Wildish

I regret to inform all of you with sincere condolences that fellow Trophy Trout Hunter Jim Reeves has recently passed away.

I was doing my monthly chat with Ryan Daniels when I found out the news.  Jim Reeves was the father-in-law of Felix Arami, whom many of you may be familiar with as a Trophy Trout Hunter.  Our deepest sympathies, thoughts, and prayers go out to Felix, his family, and friends during this difficult time.

Felix and Jim have been pursuing trophy trout for a very long time.  They have both been long-time contributors to the website, providing fantastic photos of their memorable catches.  I can speak on behalf of all TTH’ers that we are forever grateful for those memories.  The next (2) photos are of Jim’s largest ever brown trout at 9.75#’s and the last german brown Jim caught.  He caught it at Crescent Lake in March of this year.

He caught it earlier this year at Crescent Lake!

Jim exemplified a dedication to the sport of trophy trout fishing.  Where many would scoff at the idea of fishing all day, Jim latched onto the challenge.  Often times, he willingly would fish from dawn until dusk without so much as taking a break.  It was this drive that garnered much respect from his fellow fisherman and trophy trout hunter.

Jim passed away in a way that I think most people would yearn for.  Doing something he LOVED.  Jim and Felix were at a favorite lake of theirs, getting ready to pursue some trophy german browns.  Jim collapsed on the shoreline and Felix ran to get some help.  Both Bret and Monte Martin happened to be at the same lake when Felix approached them describing what had happened.  They hurriedly returned to where Jim was trying to revive him for several minutes.  Sadly, he was gone.  However, Felix wanted it mentioned that he did not know what he would’ve done without Bret and Monte.  Our hats are off to you gentlemen.

Henry David Thoreau once wrote “Many men go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.”  I’d like to think that Jim knew exactly what he was after when he went fishing.  And it wasn’t the fish.  Sure, Jim wanted to catch “the BIG one”.  Who wouldn’t?  But more importantly, I like to believe what Jim was going after was this.  Spending time with his beloved son-in-law, in the most beautiful settings on the planet, pursuing one of the most-elusive trophy fish that most fishermen only dream of catching.  I have to say, it does not get much better than that!

Rest in peace, Jim!  You will be missed and most certainly never forgotten!
